From the Start
Our journey began with a wish and a prayer. Friendship and help were extended from across the region, state, and even the USA to bring SVDP to the Cape Fear Region.
Both Father Greg Spencer, Pastor and John Hubbarth, Deacon of St. Mark Catholic Church, Wilmington NC had a wish for a St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Conference to be established and support the Cape Fear Region of North Carolina.

With help and friendship from the SVDP District & Diocese of Raleigh, a call for interest was extended to all Parishioners of the area. Over 35 people attended a lively discussion and prayed together for discernment. The brainstorming meeting produced twenty two (22) founding members and a leadership team from within the group. After a lot of prayer and six months of hard work in development, planning, legal structuring, by-laws/policies, financial structures, mission awareness, and member training we were commissioned as a Conference on September 27, 2024 – The feast of St. Vincent de Paul.
The Holy Spirit heard our call and the rest is history.

Love possesses something of the divine nature, which gives itself without diminishing, shares itself without division, and is multiplied and present in many places at once.
