Shari

Shari, a mother of nine children—six of whom currently live with her—recently returned to work after serving time in jail for an undisclosed reason.

Her former employer kept her position open, and coworkers generously provided transportation to and from work.

However, when her children contracted a contagious illness, Shari had to miss work to care for them. She requested assistance to help make her rent payment.

The Vincentians who met with Shari described her children as courteous and well-behaved, and Shari as a devoted mother, determined to raise her children in a stable environment and support their education.

The home only had a few folding chairs and beds for the children. Shari slept on the floor.

In addition to helping with her rent shortfall, OLR Vincentians coordinated with 2Share, a local resource, to provide furniture and assist Shari in finding counseling for her 12-year-old son, who is coping with the loss of his father in a tragic accident.
